Welcome to Opensource Md
Welcome to the Opensource - Maryland Group. We are focused on introducing free and opensource software to persons who may have never used it before. The roots of our organization is the Ubuntu MD loco but we support all opensource applications and Linux distros.
Our meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the main branch of the Howard County Library. We typically provide a short presentation on an opensource program and answer questions regarding the use of any opensource application.
We encourage visitors to bring their laptops to the meeting. We also provide instruction on installing opensource programs or running live versions of opensource distros on your laptops.
Please feel free to create an account in the Login section of the site then register to attend our next meeting. Attendance is free but this will help us plan our resources for the meetings.
We have a new mailing list that you can join to receive meeting announcements, ask questions and share information about opensource programs.
Streaming Media Presentation
Many people have media at home they wish to watch on their televisions and media devices including home videos, pictures, and music. Lots of people copy this data around using flash drives and such resulting in multiple copies of the same media. Then you go to a friend or family member's home and want to share the media while visiting with your laptop.
Chuck Fran will be giving a talk on how to set up a Linux computer to stream media to multiple device types. The devices will include Roku, PS3, Androids, iPhones, iPods, and any other standards based UPnP devices.
Joomla CMS Presentation
Ron Swift gave a presentation on the Joomla content management web development system at the March 2012 meeting.
